With over 20 years of law enforcement experience starting with the Department of Justice and into the Department of Homeland Security, conducting compliance training and outreach to private industry, and over a decade as a defensive tactics and firearms instructor I have seen changes and improvements in techniques and tactics, in what we train and how we train. Law enforcement tactics, firearms, and use of force has adapted based on efficiency and effectiveness as well as legal precedent.
In 2015, being one of the few law enforcement officers in my church, I was asked to assist in security planning. I began by researching and leveraging my federal and local law enforcement contacts and resources. Our church obtained a site assistance visit from a Protective Security Adviser from the Department of Homeland Security and started a security taskforce. The safety/security ministry at our church is discreet, but has grown and provides our staff and volunteers with the resources and training to address emergency situations in the church and elsewhere.
